March 8, 2008: Performed with Noah Getz, saxophonist, at Our Savior's Atonement Lutheran Church in Washington Heights, Manhattan, New York in a program of works by New York composers Aaron Jay Kernis, Charles Wuorinen, and Matthew Van Brink, as well as compositions by Fernando Benadon and Gregory Wanamaker from the recent Getz-Chappell CD release, Crosscurrents.

March 7, 2008: Presented a lecture-recital at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City addressing the parallels between acting and performing music. The program consisted of classical music, original compositions, improvisations, and jazz tune arrangements. March 15, 2007: Performed the Concerto for Two Pianos by Francis Poulenc with pianist Bonny Armacost and the Orquesta Sinfonica Juvenil de Ecuador, conducted by Patricio Aizaga. March 1, 2007: Released "Pick It Up", a recording of eighteen jazz tunes arranged for solo piano by Jeffrey Chappell, on the Centaur Records label. The tune for the title track was composed by Goucher College alumnus Greg Russell.

January 24-27, 2007: Served as orchestral pianist with the Key West Symphony Orchestra, performing keyboard parts in Gustav Holst's "The Planets".

March 25, 2006: Performed Robert Schumann's Carnaval, Opus 9, at the Anderson House Museum in Washington, D.C. The performance was preceded by a lecture by Dr. Immanuela Gruenberg addressing Schumann's sources of inspiration — literary and musical works, feelings of love and despair, his vivid imagination — as well as the composer's complex personality. March 11, 2006: Performed music for flute and piano with flutist Thomas Robertello and the Woodbridge Flute Choir at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Bethesda, Maryland. The program included the Fauré Fantasy and the premiere performance of Robertello's transcription of Chopin's Sonata for Piano and Cello. January 14, 2006: Performed a solo piano recital on the Capital City Concerts series in Montpelier, Vermont (see the Times-Argus publicity interview). About the concert, the Times-Argus wrote: "(Chopin Sonata) Chappell delivered power and grandeur... (Fauré Ballade) He employed a beautiful variety of touch and phrasing... (Beethoven Sonata) Chappell delivered the ultimate Beethoven power and beauty... (Haydn Sonata) Chappell's virtuosic and sensitive performance was a pleasure." October 29, 2005: The Jeffrey Chappell Jazz Combo with the Master Chorale of Washington performed Pange Lingua Variations by Dave Brubeck and Maurice Duruflé's Requiem, accompanied by orchestra and organ at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC. Program Information.

September 22, 2005: Dixieland Relief, a concert of Dixieland jazz at Goucher College to benefit victims of Hurricane Katrina with Jeffrey Chappell, piano, Jon Mathis, trumpet, Seth Kibel, clarinet, Josh Stober, bass, Josh Cohen, drums, and Lauren Bigelow, vocals. Proceeds from the performance were given to United Way for the Katrina victims relief effort. Program information.

May 21, 2005: Performed as piano soloist and in chamber music with flutists Karen Kevra and Rhea Jacobus on the Capital City Concerts series in Montpelier, Vermont. (see Times Argus article). In connection with this concert, led a master class in collaboration with Ms. Kevra at Spaulding High School in Barre, Vermont, on May 18, 2005 as part of the educational outreach program of Capital City Concerts, and performed a recital on Vermont Public Radio with Karen Kevra on May 19.

September 11, 2004: In Paducah, Kentucky, performed the Grieg Piano Concerto with the Paducah Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jordan Tang. Program information.

July 21-24, 2004: Served as an official pianist for the International Clarinet Association Annual Conference at the University of Maryland, collaborating in concerts with eight of the world's finest clarinetists: David Jones and James Gillespie (USA), Dominique Vidal and Stephanie Corre (France), Michele Gingras (Canada), Fabio DiCasola (Switzerland), Joszef Balogh (Hungary), and Wei-leng Chen (Taiwan).

June 20, 2004: Performed the Sextet by Francis Poulenc with the National Gallery Chamber Players Wind Quintet at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Program information.

April 30, 2004: Performed a special Embassy Series concert at the French Embassy in Washington, D.C., "An Evening With Jeffrey Chappell", featuring the pianist as soloist, composer, improviser, and chamber musician. Guest artist and Grammy-nominated flutist Karen Kevra performed in a sonata for flute and piano by Louis Moyse. The Washington Post wrote: “Having begun the program with a glittering impromptu by Fauré and a limpid nocturne by Chopin, Chappell offered two more substantial French works after intermission. Flutist Karen Kevra joined Chappell for Louis Moyse’s Flute Sonata No. 1, which proved captivating in their hands. Ravel’s fiercely difficult ‘Gaspard de la Nuit’ closed the program and the unfazed Chappell not only provided seductive pianistic color but vividly illustrated Ravel’s trio of musical narratives, making for a spellbinding performance.” Program information.

April 20, 2004: Performed excerpts from Aaron Copland's "Appalachian Spring" in a chamber orchestra at the Annual Summit Meeting on Applications of Broadband in Washington, D.C., where Michael Tilson Thomas, conductor of the San Francisco Symphony, gave a conducting lesson while in San Francisco to the conductor in Washington, Theodore Abramson, via the Internet.

April 2-3, 2004: Recitals at St. Croix, Virgin Islands, with clarinetist Marguerite Baker in the Candlelight Concert Series at the Whim Museum in Frederiksted. Program information.

June 16-28, 2003: Served as faculty member of the Opera Seminar sponsored by Sol Fest, a summer music festival in connection with the Key West Symphony Orchestra. Worked as rehearsal pianist and voice coach, and performed as vocal accompanist in concerts on June 21, 25, and 28 at St. Paul´s Church and at Glenn Archer Auditorium.

May 30, 2003: Performed the Piano Concerto Number 25 in C Major, K. 503, by Mozart with the Chamber Orchestra of Albuquerque conducted by David Oberg, substituting for another pianist on three weeks´ notice. Composed a cadenza for the first movement in addition to learning the concerto from scratch. Read the review by The Albuquerque Journal.

May 26-28, 2003: Held recording sessions in New York of solo piano compositions by Jeffrey Chappell (a second set of sessions took place on June 9 and 10). Completed recordings of 20 jazz tune arrangements, 3 piano sonatas, and numerous shorter works.

October 10, 2001: Presented a solo piano lecture-recital at Goucher College demonstrating improvisation, composition, arranging, and interpreting music. The concert included improvising a fugue.

October 7, 2001: Performed Gershwin's Variations on "I Got Rhythm" with the Key West Pops Orchestra. The Key West Solares Hill newspaper wrote: "This piece is one of Gershwin's attempts to bridge the gap between classical music and jazz, and Jeffrey, who has jazz chops in addition to a formidable classical technique, made a complete success out of Gershwin's effort, even to the point of giving the faster passages a bebop articulation which the composer would surely have arrived at, had he lived long enough to hear it."

August 5-11, 2001: Attended Stanford Jazz Workshop, had a lesson with Benny Green and attended his concerts and master classes, as well as working with Mark Levine in a piano trio group. Also performed in concert on August 9.

July 8-20, 2001: Third year as Director of the Goucher College Summer Arts Institute Jazz Camp for high school students.

June 9, 2001: Performed in the first annual Key West International Jazz Festival with vocalist Peter Diamond in a selection of five songs.

June 5, 2001: Solo piano recital in Key West, Florida, for the Impromptu Concert Series, performing Beethoven's Sonata opus 78, Schubert's "Wanderer" Fantasy, Tchaikovsky's June: Barcarolle, Gershwin's Three Preludes, Barber's Piano Sonata, and Chappell's own Jazz Sonata, with an encore of "Homage to Rodrigo" by Vlahopoulos. The critic for the Key West Paradise newspaper wrote: "There was nothing to forewarn the audience of the powerhouse excitement, the almost incredible display of technical firepower, soon to be unleashed. Chappell's dazzlingly confident mastery of the keyboard, in combination with a relaxed demeanor, became especially evident in the Schubert 'Wanderer' Fantasy. Chappell ratcheted up the tension and energy in this dramatic work in remarkably stirring fashion, remaining all the while in impeccable control."

May 21, 2001: Presented a new song at the BMI Musical Theater Workshop.

May 20, 2001: Repeated the May 8 recital at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. for their American Music Festival month. The Washington Post wrote of "Chappell's crisp touch" and "fiery, uncompromising performance", and went on to say: "Chappell's virtuosity was always honestly applied and impassioned. This was a large-scale, volatile, sweepingly dramatic interpretation."

May 8, 2001: Performed solo recital at Goucher College. Program comprised of all-American works including sonatas by Charles Griffes and Samuel Barber, as well as the world premiere of Chappell's "Jazz Sonata" and two other premieres: "This" by James Grant and "Three Homages" by Sotireos Vlahopoulos.

May 3, 2001: Performed recital with guitarist Paul Fischer at Goucher College.

May 1, 2001: MMC Recordings released CD: "The Dream Wanderer" by Sotireos Vlahopoulos, for piano and string orchestra. Chappell recorded it in Prague in 1995 with the Czech Radio Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Valek.

April 29, 2001: Completed a Levine School of Music teacher training course in using computers for musical purposes such as eartraining, notation, sequencing, and composition.

April 26, 2001: Led the Goucher Jazz Ensemble again in performance at Goucher College.

April 16, 2001: Presented a new song at the BMI Musical Theater Workshop.

April, 2001: Composed the third movement of "Jazz Sonata".

March 24, 2001: Performed in chamber music concert of American works in Montpelier, Vermont, in the new Capital City Concerts series with flutist Karen Kevra, the series director, and clarinetist Chester Brezniak. The group also did a radio broadcast of selections from the concert for Vermont Public Radio in Burlington, Vermont, on March 23. Program included works by Copland, Bernstein, and Barber. The three musicians played a jazz tune, "Blue Bossa", as an encore, for which Chappell composed a flute solo. Also performed the Sonata for Piano by Samuel Barber. The Montpelier Times Argus wrote: "The masterpiece of the program was Barber's Sonata for Piano, Opus 26, which Chappell delivered with a bravura albeit sensitive performance. Chappell is one fine pianist, with more than enough virtuosity for this magnificent work. He had power, virtuosity, clarity and sensitivity, but more importantly, he was able to convey his understanding of the difficult work to the audience. January 27, 2001: Accompanied baritone Jerome Barry performing Schubert's "Winterreise" at the Austrian Embassy in Washington, D.C., under the auspices of The Embassy Series.

January 10-13, 2001: Attended the 28th annual convention of the International Association of Jazz Educators in New York City, representing the Levine School of Music and Goucher College. Present for unveiling of the IAJE/MTNA Jazz Studies Achievement Plan for which Chappell was a reviewer.

December 7, 2000: Led the Goucher Jazz Ensemble in concert at Goucher College.

November 5-12, 2000: Assistant conductor of the Key West Symphony Orchestra, leading four performances of the musical, "The Wizard of Oz" at the Tennessee Williams Fine Arts Center in Key West, Florida.

November 2, 2000: Lectured on the topic of "Music in Paris in the 1920s" at Johns Hopkins University School of Professional Studies in Business and Education.

October 20, 2000: Performed in jazz faculty concert with bassist Pepe Gonzalez at Levine School of Music in Washington, D.C. The Washington Post wrote: "Their alternately spacious and spry duets often evoked the richness, nuance and swing associated with Duke Ellington's canon."

October to December, 2000: Composed the second movement of "Jazz Sonata".

September, 2000: One of nine music teachers in the United States selected to review the first draft of a Jazz Studies Achievement Plan for the newly-formed alliance of the Music Teachers National Association and the International Association of Jazz Educators. The plan formulates progressive requirements through five stages of jazz study for all instrumentalists and singers. Students who use the plan will receive joint recognition from MTNA and IAJE for their accomplishments.

September 16-17, 2000: Four concerts at the Vermont Millennium Festival, a weekend music festival in Montpelier tracing the greatest musical compositions over the past thousand years. Played works by Vivaldi, Mozart, Chopin, and Keith Jarrett, both solo and chamber music. Invited for return engagement in March, 2001.

August to September, 2000: Composed first movement of third piano sonata entitled "Jazz Sonata".

June 30, 2000: Submitted feature article to Piano & Keyboard Magazine about the Piano 300 exhibit at the Smithsonian in Washington, D.C. The exhibit traces the history of the piano since its invention 300 years ago. The article appeared in the November/December 2000 issue of the magazine.

June 21-23, 2000: Taught three-day improvisation seminar for piano teachers at the Levine School of Music in Washington, D.C. as part of the Professional Studies Program which trains teachers to teach.

June 10, 2000: Special performance at 20th anniversary of the La Gesse Music Festival in Toulouse, France. Solo recital of works by Frederic Chopin.
